How to Print and Assemble Your Own Spool for Bambu Lab Refill Filament
If you're using Bambu Lab Refill Filament, you can save plastic waste and reduce costs by reusing a compatible spool. Luckily, Bambu Lab provides a built-in spool model with all their 3D printers, so you can easily print one yourself.
Step 1: Print the Spool Parts
You’ll need to print two sets of components:
-
Part 1:
Spool-Wide,
Spool-Spacing-Shim
-
Part 2:
Spool-Narrow
These files are pre-installed on your Bambu Lab printer. Simply access them from the printer’s local file system.
We recommend printing with strong materials like PETG or ABS to ensure long-term durability.
Step 2: Assemble the Spool
-
Check the printed Parts: When you're finished printing, you will have a wide piece (1x), narrow piece (1x), spacing shim (2x).
-
Insert the wide piece into the filament roll: Find the locator (a tiny block on the wide piece). Align it with the notch on the inner ring of the filament roll. Insert the wide piece into the filament roll.
-
Assemble the wide piece and the narrow piece:
Step 1. Insert the narrow piece and align the groove of each piece inside of the spool until it is pushed firmly into the wide piece.
Step 2. Once it is pushed firmly into the wide piece, rotate the narrow piece clockwise until it slides into place and you hear it lock.
-
Insert the shim under the triangle and remove the plastic strips:
Step 1. Make sure the spacing shim is installed inside the spool (under the triangle).
Step 2. Tear apart and pull out the plastic strips.
Tip:
-
Don’t discard your spool! Once you’ve printed one, you can use it again and again with any future Bambu Lab Refill rolls.
By switching to refill packs and reusable spools, you're helping reduce unnecessary plastic waste while still enjoying high-quality prints. 🌱
